Latina is one of the most emblematic bookstores in Porto. It was founded in 1942 by Henrique Perdigão and is known for its façade, highlighting the bust of Luis de Camões. It was the first company in Portugal to create a literary contest, right in the year of its inauguration. The winner of the contest was Prof. José Hermano Saraiva who competed with the work “Vento vindo dos montes” using the pseudonym Simplicimus. Now part of the Leya group, Latina continues to offer its customers a wide range of books. Throughout its three floors you will find all the latest Portuguese and foreign literature, as well as technical, school, children’s and artistic books and travel guides.

It is simultaneously a studio, a gallery and a decorative arts store, where customers come for the products and stay on the advice of the artist Amanda Marinho.

In this space there are also Painting and Arts Classes and several workshops, which make Art & Color by Mimi not only a reference point for the most experienced, but also a great place for all those who intend to start in the decorative arts through teachings of those with extensive experience.

Preenche Vazios (‘filling voids’) is a tiling workshop where the client can order custom panels, with patterns and phrases to his/her liking, as well as merchandising. It was born with the intention of filling the empty spaces on the façades of houses and buildings in the cities. The project intends to draw attention to the small details that surround us daily, and surprise passers-by with something they were not used to seeing during their journey, assigning small messages from Portuguese poets. Much more than an artistic intervention, the project intends to draw attention to the need to preserve the Portuguese tile heritage which has suffered a progressive loss of tiles in recent years.
