Bridging the old and the contemporary, António Sousa Oliveira's Binding Workshop is one of the few spaces dedicated to this activity that still resists the passage of time. Founded in 1969, with a small workshop on Rua das Taipas, it moved in 1974 to the space where it still stands today, Rua do Pinheiro. Its founder, António Oliveira, passed on to his descendants all his passion and dedication for the art of binding. They are the ones who, today, make use of this excellent training and lead this family business, continuing a craft business that has already been operating for half a decade.

Peninsular is one of the most emblematic establishments in the city, serving its clients for over 100 years and selling the most varied stationery and graphic arts. Located in a century-old building, it started as a family business and today it remains so, now in the 5th generation. It is a constant process of modernization, always accompanied by rigor and thoughtfulness, synonymous with responsibility and commitment to sustained and solid growth over the years, but without forgetting the roots and the concern to preserve the essence of a century-old house. This is the simple yet effective formula that has allowed Peninsular to continue to be part of its customers’ lives for so many decades.

The Livraria Utopia was born at a time when alternative bookstores established after 25 April 1974 had already closed. It opened its doors in 1982, right next to the headquarters where so many demonstrations took place during the PREC, by the hand of libertarian members of the editorial cooperative A Centelha, also functioning as a support to the distribution of this historic and resistant publisher from Coimbra, established after the academic crisis of 69, by the hands of Professor Sobral Martins. The Livraria Utopia intends to resist in these times, enemies of the book. It sells new and used books, from publishers such as Livraria Letra Livre, & etc, Maldoror, VS. Vasco Santos, Fenda, Averno, Alambique, Saguão, Língua Morta.
