XL arises from an old desire of its owner, Alexandra S. Monteiro, to build a space that reflects her personality and experiences. The search for new things and new designers was one of her priorities, seeking to find a style that represented something fresh in Porto. There is a concern in bridging the gap between classic and modern, combining Scandinavian style, also characterized by simple and functional lines with old styles, such as the 1950s. XL assumes a taste for simplicity of lines, design and of functionality, closely linked to the sometimes chaotic, modern lifestyle, that makes one look for an uncomplicated, elegant and functional home environment.

This is the first frame workshop in the city. It was founded in 1858 by two brothers, António and José dos Santos and the business is still in the family. The art of gilding and silvering with gold or silver leaf is an endangered art, but not here, where we value this craft, using traditional techniques and materials to reproduce classic objects, but also creating unique and contemporary objects. Throughout its existence, several artists created models of frames or margins, such as António Carneiro, Henrique Medina and Fernando Lanhas. Burel Factory is a brand that was born in Serra da Estrela. It is a sustainable project that emerges from the recovery of an old wool factory, to continue the history of burel, one of the endogenous products of the region made from 100% wool. It is part of the revitalisation of old knowledge, of the people who kept it in their hands and of a mountain culture that was in danger of disappearing. Today, the factory operates with machines and looms from the 19th century, ensuring the longevity of this know-how, to which it combines the innovation made through design and colour, to deliver a current and contemporary product. It has fashion, decoration and interior architecture pieces, from blankets to toys, all in sheep wool.
