Manteigaria – Clérigos

Manteigaria is a Pastéis de Nata factory with a public service desk. It has two stores in the city of Porto located in the Clérigos and in the Bolhão area. Inside it is possible for the customer to observe the whole process of making the Pastel de Nata, also known as the Portuguese custard tart, completely handmade: from the preparation of the dough to the addition of the cream, and, of course, the moment when the cakes are baked. Pastéis de Natal can be enjoyed inside the store or taken outside. Manteigaria also has the particularity of announcing in the street, through a bell, the exit of a new batch of tartlets ready to be tasted.

At Paolo’s Pizzeria you can enjoy an extensive pizza menu, with garlic bread and drink, or the option of a pizza roll. But you will be making a mistake if you think that Paolo’s only has pizzas. The diversity of starters impresses, from the traditional olives, through the sausage or cheese boards, to the house specialty, a steak puff pastry, accompanied with fried potatoes. There is a panoply of salads and pasta dishes, but the menu of traditional Portuguese dishes is also a great bet, as well as the unavoidable Francesinha (a sandwich from the city of Porto, consisting of sausage, fresh sausage, ham, cold meats and beef steak, covered with cheese later melted; it is garnished with a tomato, beer and piri-piri sauce and can be served with French fries as a side dish) and some snacks. As a cherry on top of the cake, there is also a dessert menu for all tastes and shapes.

Moreda owes its name to Manuel Francisco Moreda, a former councilor of the Oporto Chamber and member of the Porto Trade Association, who in 1860 opened a fig brandy distillery, which later evolved into the wider trade of wines and white drinks. Moreda has a huge variety of snacks made from shard cake such as nail and garlic shard cake. Noteworthy is the francesinha in Caco cake, a mix between the most typical Porto snack with one of the delights of Madeira. It offers economical lunchtime menus with meat and fish options including soup, bread, dessert and coffee. It is still a great place for group dinners.

Peneira – Padaria Artesanal opened its doors in March 2020 in a context that, as everyone knows, was not the most favourable one. However, it did not fail to provide bread, the protagonist of this space, delivering door to door, inside and outside Porto. Belonging to the owners of Intrigo, Peneira is a natural fermentation bakery overlooking the river. Every day there are different types of bread: wheat bread is always present, but you can also find carob bread, seed bread, sweet potato bread, rye bread, among others. You can buy and take home or taste them at the establishment. There are also cinnamon rolls, croissants and muffins made with several hours of fermentation.
