Confeitaria Império – Fernandes Tomás

Confeitaria Império, whose foundation dates back to 1943, is one of the oldest and most charismatic patisseries in the city of Porto. It still has the tea room where the ladies used to drink port wine in teapots and the tea was served in trays, a tradition that was resumed due to the great demand for this way of serving tea. The patties, available here in countless varieties, are also considered one of the biggest attractions of this house. Also available to the customer are daily dishes and homemade sweets. In 2002, a second group establishment is inaugurated, adding to the confectionery service pizzeria valences and self-service restaurant with weight food, making it ideal for group dinners.

Typical pastry from Rezende, veal and shrimp pastries, Império specialties

What makes Café Nobre noble is the simplicity and genuineness with which it receives its customers. The atmosphere is familiar, welcoming and lively, which is provided by the personalised and friendly service. If you are looking for a coffee, a break to have a snack or a candy, or to hang out with friends, Café Nobre can be one of those contemplated. However, it can also be the space to have a meal. First of all, Café Nobre invites you to try what they themselves consider to be the best Francesinha (a sandwich from the city of Porto, consisting of sausage, fresh sausage, ham, cold meats and beef steak, covered with cheese later melted; it is garnished with a tomato, beer and piri-piri sauce and can be served with French fries as a side dish) in the city of Porto. There are also hotdogs, hamburgers, beef sandwiches or beef on the plate with chips, omelettes, mixed toasts, baguettes, salads and much more.

Café Ambrizete home appeared in the 70s and can be said to be part of a range of the oldest houses in the area. The name ‘Ambrizete’ derives from the time of the returnees, the people who returned from the old Portuguese overseas provinces, being the name of an Angolan city at the time. At the beginning, with the theme of a tea room, the space contained sofas for the comfort of its clients and paintings on the walls with the theme ‘Angola’. Of these paintings it is still possible to see part of them under the false ceiling, as well as a stained glass window that is part of the origins of the house. Nowadays, the highlight goes to the games of Santa Casa, to its billiards, to the space outside and to its soup, which never disappoints its clients.

Inaugurated in 1931, Escondidinho was the first restaurant to obtain two Michelin stars in 1936, which made the restaurant a place of excellence.
Its dining room, which reproduces the comfort of the 18th century residences, with the ornamental strength of the old faience and the showy ceramic wainscoting, imitating the Delft school, with its extraordinary beauty tiles, stands out for its beauty.
In the Escondidinho Restaurant you can enjoy the unique flavors of Porto gastronomy, such as “tripas” (gut), cod, beef or “cataplana”, always with a service of recognized excellence.
